2. THE ULTIMATE EGG HEAD!

Design a helmet to protect an athlete’s head (a raw egg)!
Sponsored by SCOE and North State STEM
(Build Helmet in advance or day of the Faire.)
(Grades Pre-K – 8th)
Crash! Crack! American athletes suffer 3.8 million sports-related concussions each year. We need YOUR TEAM to help design an amazing helmet to protect an athlete’s head (a raw egg) from falls and rolls across the ground.  Those helmets that successfully protect their egg will be put on display for Makers to vote on which designs best allow for visibility, breathability, freedom of motion, and general, all around cool-ness.

3. STEAM ART Challenge!

Sponsored by Shasta Arts Council
(Ages 9 to 18 or college students with valid ID)

(Build sculpture in advance.)
If you are an artist that would like to add ART to STEM, this competition is for you.
The challenge is to design a sculpture with a place on the sculpture itself that you can add dry ice to make it STEAM at the end.  Prizes are given for best entries in each age group: 9-11, 12-14, 15-18 and college.

Sculptures will be accepted between Oct. 31 and Nov. 3 at University Preparatory School.

Challenge Rules: Click here for rules and registration form.

See video for Sample Sculptures:

4. NERDY DERBY – The Great Car Race!

Sponsored by Shasta Builders’ Exchange
(All ages are welcome to design a car.)
(Build in advance or day of the Faire)
Design your own mini race car, in advance or on the day of the event.  Test it out on the Nerdy Derby Track at the Maker Faire!

Nerdy Derby Specifications:  The width of the track is 3″ – the car chassis could go over that width slightly. The really important measurement is 1.75″ for the wheel spacing of the vehicle, so the wheels will fit on the track. Besides that, an “anything goes” approach should be taken. Get your nerd on, and get creative.  Blow some paradigms with your design!
